ABOUT STAMPEDE BASKETBALL

Stampede Basketball is a local club basketball team operated from Kansas City, Mo.  We started out as a team of ten fourth graders in 2000; in 2003, we have a total of seventeen boys divided between two teams, playing in competitive leagues and area tournaments. 

With the unwavering support of a terrific group of parents, head coach Derek Mueller and assistant coach Mike Wilkinson have worked with the boys since 2000.  We emphasize sportsmanship, fun and teamwork as we pursue the development of basic basketball abilities.

Tireless.  Smart.  Confident. 

These three principles are at the heart of Stampede Basketball.  Tireless: Physical fitness is a precursor to successful athletic performance at any level.  A healthy body and exceptional stamina help us feel great whether we're playing basketball or not.  Superior fitness levels--sensitive to strength, agility, quickness, and positioning--help us be our best all game long.  Smart:  To be successful, we must be able to think the game.  The development of young players is as much a mental process as a physical one.  We understand that the best athletes don't always win.  Instead, success in sports involves a complex formula of fitness, will, and, perhaps most importantly, basketball intelligence.  Knowing the game, understanding patterns, passing lanes, angles, body positioning, leverage, center of gravity, and  the habits of other players escalates our chances for success now and in the future.  Confident: Self-assurance is incredibly important to our success.  We emphasize trust in our teammates, both on and off the court.  With a defense-first approach, Stampede Basketball teaches that we must first believe in ourselves, our willingness to work hard and work together--no matter the challenge facing us.   

Stampede Basketball enjoys a close relationship with the Park University Pirates NAIA men's basketball team.  We often invite guest player-coaches from among the University's student-athletes.  We also get involved in halftime scrimmages at games.
